How to Get Emancipated from My Legal Guardian
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Connecticut
I am trying to gather information for a 15 year old that is trying to live in Florida with her father but her maternal grandmother has custody of her. She has asked the grandmother to allow her to move to Florida with her father, where she is more than welcome but the grandmother continues to say no. Is there anything she can do?
Re: How to Get Emancipated from My Legal Guardian
How come dad does NOT have custody? If the court has seen fit to remove his custodial rights, then if grandma relinquishes her guardianship, the child will likely go into foster care until a new guardian could be found.

The minor will have to be 16 years of age and will have to show that she "willingly lives separate and apart from his parents or guardian, with or without the consent of the parents or guardian, and that the minor is managing his own financial affairs, regardless of the source of any lawful income," or "for good cause shown, it is in the best interest of the minor, any child of the minor or the parents or guardian of the minor."
Emancipation will mean the child is on her own, it will not be to allow her to live in another state with dad.
If dad wants to gain custody, dad can go to court for that. Emancipation is rarely successful, and nothing has been stated here that would appear to give any court good cause to remove grandma's guardianship.
