    Impersonating a Public Servant
Ok , this is going to sound a bit strange but today when I was checking one of the local papers online I noticed that the Sheriffs office now had a website listed with a list of outstanding warrants. So just for the hell of it I decided to click on it and browse around a bit . Next thing you know, I entered my name into the search box and up pops an outstanding warrant of me from 1999 for "Impersonating a Public Servant" Needless to say I about passed out as I have never been in trouble for anything. Maybe a few tickets here and there but never anything serious.
Now, this warrant is in another state (Kentucky) which is where I work . And whats even more strange is that I was invovled in an accident over there where a gentleman hit my wifes mini van and nothing was said about it . At any rate , now I am really scared shitless and not sure what to do . Is there a statute of limitations on something of this nature? Do you think that I am going to be locked up ? This is all just too weird.
Thanks for reading and any advice is greatly appreciated .

If there's a warrant, charges have been initiated so the statute of limitations isn't running.

In this accident, perchance, did you give the other person the impression that you were a police officer?

One way or another, you should consider hiring a lawyer in the county where the charge is pending to investigate the charge, and to try to resolve it.

Thanks for the reply aaron. To answer your question

the answer is no. Apparently I was late for work that day and was driving like a mad man to get there. There was this lady in the passing lane doing something like 35 in a 55 and I couldn't make the lane change to the other lane due to traffic so I flashed my lights and she finaly got over for me . Apparently she called the police and told them that I tried to pull her over or something like that . At anyrate, once they caught up with me on my way to work I explained to them what happened and they warned me that , that was a stupid thing to do and watch it next time. After that, I went to work and continued on. This was back in 1999 .
So the other day I was browsing the local paper online and noticed that they had a warrant search . So I decided to check and low and behold, there was my name. Now, at the time this happened I lived at the same residence as I do now so I am not sure as to why they did not serve me , however, this did happen in Kentucky and I live in Ohio .
I took your advice and hired a Attorney . He wants me to meet him at his office tomorrow and then drive on down to the sheriffs office so they can "excute" this warrant and get that out of the way . He assured me that I wouldn't be locked up for more than a few hours ( I am praying) and then he would proceed from there.
I'll keep this post updated as to the outcome , however, as he mentioned, with this being so long ago , the chances are in my favor as he said that the Officer may not even be employed anymore and or the "witness" may not be able to be contacted .
All of this because I was late for work. .. wow .

Well, I didn't have to go to jail . My lawyer made a few calls and got the warrant changed to a summons (or something like that) and they are setting up a date . This is a class A Misdemeanor and he said that they didn't really have anything on file regarding this and couldn't see how this even came to be.

Maybe you'll be lucky, and after this much time they won't be able to pull together what they need to continue a prosecution, assuming this even should have been charged in the first place.

Yea, I hope that's the direction in which it's going.

Well, this all came about because I flashed my lights at someone and tried to get them to move over so that I could pass . O well, just have to play the waiting game on my end and see what becomes.

    Re: Impersonating a Public Servant
Just to give an update as to what happened , I went to court and was in there for about three minutes and it was dismissed . I didn't have to do anything . We walked in and my lawyer told me to have a seat , then he walked up to the Judges table, they spoke for a brief second and that was that. We are still not sure how all this even came about. Apparently they didn't even have anything on this case at all , infact, they couldn't even tell how it had orginated. O well, just glad it's all said and done. Thanks for your help and the advise. :)
