Lied to The Police About My Name When Arrested - Will I Get Caught
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Colorado
I was arrested for walking home drunk and taken to detox but no charges were set against me.
But i gave them my fake i.d's first and last name but with my real address. they also had no i.d to confirm what i was saying because i didnt have one on me.
Now i (under a different name) owe 370 dollars for one day and night in detox. but i dont want to pay it if they dont know who i am and cant charge it back to my fake i.d. (which is a real individual that i know).
Also when they sent the bill they spelled the first name of the fake i.d's name wrong by one letter. and looking back at something i signed in detox the birthdate was wrong as well by a day, so i was wondering if i can get caught for fake i.d or not? and if i should pay the amount due or not?
thank you

I would say it depends: You might...or you might not.
Good luck with that....
If you were in the station, they have your mug. Whether from video or mug shot...After they don't hear from you, there may be a warrant issued. Someone may come to your house looking for you. I would dump that fake I.D. in case they end up going through your wallet. If they have a printout of your face when they come looking for the fake named dude...you and your fake I.D. scheme will be busted. Contrary to popular belief: the police *can* put 2 and 2 together...It's a minor offense, so even if they do issue a warrant, they may end up just waiting until your alternate persona gets pulled over for something...in which case: "he" will have simply dissappeared forever so...it will also depend on how motivated the police are in finding you...of course, if they arrest that "real individual" whose ID you are using and he turns you in...your charges will multiply pretty dramatically.
Re: Lied to The Police About My Name When Arrested - Will I Get Caught
You do realize that you could well be facing MUCH more serious consequences than the $370 for renting the jail cell, right? You might want to do some research on the following Colorado statutes:
18-5-102 – Forgery
18-5-105 – Possession of a Forged Instrument, and
18-5-902 – Identity Theft
Like the above poster said, the cops are able to put 2 and 2 together. They have your address, mug shot, prints, and all the documents you signed with the false name. Unlike what the above poster said, should they chose to pursue it, your actions do NOT constitute a minor offense…Your dumba$$ drunken butt committed and can be charged with three different FELONIES! You might want to retain a good criminal defense attorney sooner rather than later.

Excellent points P2P, Bear in mind the only "minor" offense I was referring to was the initial charge of PI. Everything after that is elevated in severity, dramatically!
