How Does a Misdemeanor Criminal Offense Affect a F-1 Visa and Future Immigration
I was driving with a friend when he got a speeding ticket. I was talking on the phone and the police officer began screaming to stop. I got offended and I did not end my call. Because of this I was arrested and booked. I got charged with two counts 1) obstructing and officer and 2) resisting arrest. I never resisted the arrest. This happened in New Mexico. I am planing to graduate in fall and continue with an MBA. I have to appear in court soon and my bail was set to 2,000. I would like to know if this may cause problems in traveling abroad, studying and eventually emigrating to the US. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It may certainly affect immigration. You need a lawyer. The obstruction charge is certainly appropriate ... technically a good charge but a lawyer might be able to get this dismissed.

Is it a felony charge? If so and you get a felony you can kiss becoming a US resident goodbye.

Whenever somebody chooses to commit a crime while a guest in another country - any country - they put their future immigration status at risk.

These charges are still pending? If so, work with a criminal defense lawyer familiar with immigration issues to minimize possible immigration consequences. If not, were you convicted of both offenses?
