Removing Father from Birth Certificate
My question involves paternity law for the State of: California
Hi! So I have been bouncing back and forth on figuring out how to take my daughter's father's "name" off her birth certificate.
A little background:
My daughter's father was a liar to say the least and has various aliases which I was unaware of until AFTER I had my daughter. When I met him he told me his name was one thing, when we went to sign the birth certificate he put a DIFFERENT name, he has driver's licenses with 2 OTHER NAMES. So I am not 100% sure that my daughter's birth certificate has the RIGHT NAME. He is also NOT IN THE PICTURE. He may have left the country, I'm not even sure.
SO is there any way in the state of California that I could remove his name all together from her birth certificate?
Thank you in advance!
Re: Removing Father from Birth Certificate
Not unless you get married and your husband wishes to adopt your child.
You can't erase Dad like that.
Re: Removing Father from Birth Certificate
I thought that was the case. Is there any way to file for a name change at the very least?
It feels very WRONG to me for my daughter to carry a last name that is fictitious.
Re: Removing Father from Birth Certificate
Sure, you can file to have her name changed. Dad will need to be served though.

What if I don't know where he is though? I havent heard from him in months and the last thing he left a voicemail saying he has no child with me and wants nothing to do with us
