Changing a Child's Last Name From His Father's
My question involves name change laws in the State of: CT
I would like to know how to go about changing my child's last name from his fathers to mine. My 3 year old son knows his last name as mine and knows nothing different. His father has not been involved in his life so I never corrected him. Is there a way to go about changing his last name if the father will not agree to it?

Is paternity established? A custody order? This is following a divorce or not? By "has not been involved in his life" you mean that they have never met?

There was no marriage. So no divorce thankfully. His father has not seen or spoken to his son in a year. There is paternity and custody orders. But he does not follow them

It's unlikely that the courts will grant the name change, then, unless you can show that it is absolutely in the best interests of the child.
