Getting Emancipated in Oklahoma
I'm trying to help my neice she is wanting to be emancipated and she doesn't know where to start. her parents have just recently gone through a divorce and she thought she had been adopted by the man she calls dad and come to find out she had just gotten a legal name change she wants to live with her dad and her mother won't let her and there is alot of problems at home due to this divorce. i believe that her mother won't let her go live with her dad due to the fact that she is getting death benefits from her bio-father. she is 16 and lives in ok. please help where should we begin and does she have to get an attorney???
Re: Getting Emancipated in Oklahoma
Oklahoma has a very limited emancipation law, focusing primarily on the right to enter legally binding contracts. It would probably make sense to consult a laywer about the girl's options.
