Can the Parent of a U.S. Citizen Infant Get a Visa
Have been living in Germany for a while (though got another country's citizenship and not German's) and met this US Army guy and have a child with him(not married just girlfriend/boyfriend relationship). We are awaiting my daughter's passport she is American and would like to move to States immediately though no plans for marriage as for now so Fiance Visa is out of question. My question is,if i got somebody to sign the Affidavit of support for me,will i be eligible to live and work there and still, what kind of Visa will best suit me
Thanks in advance.
Re: Mother of a U.S. Citizen Child and Us Army Girlfriend in Germany
You will need to qualify for a visa yourself; you cannot obtain immigration benefits from your US citizen child until she is an adult. So if you want to live and work in the US, you'll need to obtain either a work visa or have a family member sponsor you.
Boyfriends don't count.

Thanks for the quick reply Dogmatique.
I have a relative who is ready to sign the Affidavit of support,so, with that and of course a Visa I can move to the States,Right?
Re: Mother of a U.S. Citizen Child and Us Army Girlfriend in Germany
To move (become a long-term or legal permanent resident, not just a visitor) to the United States, you will need a visa that allows residency - either an immigrant visa or a long-term employment visa such as the H1B visa. What visa do you believe you are qualified to obtain?
Re: Mother of a U.S. Citizen Child and Us Army Girlfriend in Germany
I don't think employment Visa would work well with me as I believe I have to already have found a job and this's not the case,as a matter of fact,I would like to join College/University after settling there. The other option according to you is Immigrant Visa-Which one specifically?
Re: Mother of a U.S. Citizen Child and Us Army Girlfriend in Germany
Okay, let's ask this another way.
What is the status of the relative who is eager to sponsor you? Is s/he a US citizen? Permanent resident? What is the nature of your relationship?
Re: Mother of a U.S. Citizen Child and Us Army Girlfriend in Germany
She's a Naturalized US citizen, am her niece.
Re: Mother of a U.S. Citizen Child and Us Army Girlfriend in Germany
For you immigrate through an immediate relative who is a U.S. citizen, the relative must be a spouse, your parent if you are under 21 and unmarried, or your adult (> 21 year old) child.
If you want to try to get a student visa, that would allow you to remain in the U.S. during your studies - but not to become a permanent resident.
