Obligation to support a grandchild
I understand parents are required to support their children until majority or emancipation. (Even if the child were made a ward of the state.) What is the obligation to support a grandchild born of a minor? In other words, should my teen daughter choose to have and keep a baby, am I obliged to feed, house, clothe, supervise etc? If I chose not to, and my daughter could not provide financially for herself, what would happen? Would the baby be placed in foster care? Would my child become a ward of the state so her baby could be with her?
Re: Obligation to support a grandchild
California Family Code, Section 3930: "A parent does not have the duty to support a child of the parent's child."
Re: Obligation to support a grandchild
If my child could not financially support the child, what would happen? Would mother and child be separated? Would both be moved out by the state and I made to pay for my child's support?
Re: Obligation to support a grandchild
I do not think you should be obligated. However, how did your daughter obtain this child? Are you finacially stable to help support this child, even though you dont want to, and id there like an agreement that you and your daughter come up with? Like you paid half now and she pay you back, or she works its off or what not? How old is your dauther? She might be able to recieve finacial aid or something to that extent, for underaged mothers. And what of father support?
