My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia. Im 17 and was caught shoplifting 40$(iphone case and screen protector) from the Wal Mart. ANd after caught was arrested and sent to jail where i stayed for the night until bonded out. Im scared of jail time but is it likely? This is also my first offense.
Don't expect jail time.
But do expect thousands of dollars in legal fees, courts costs and fines, and the Civil Demand that will be arriving in the mail. Plead not guilty, ask for Public Defender, unless your parents have the money for a private lawyer. Ask the lawyer about a Diversion Program. You may end up with Community Service or an Anti-Shoplifting Program that you/your parents get to pay for.
Yes, I recently just got a lawyer. And he said to go guilty for the diversino program.
