Penalty for First Degree Forgery Charges
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia
Let me start with I have never been in any trouble in my life.. I was arrested at an arraignment that I appeared for due to a court ordered paper that I received in the mail..that was my wake up call:grumpy:I then went to jail, bonded out, have appeared to every calendar call, there were 2 other co-defendents one took a plea ..the other has outstanding bench warrants..I was told by the superior court that the D.A. took my case off the calendar until the other co-defendent is located..my question is how long can they keep me waiting to prove my innocents.. I have a court appointed attorney on top of all of this
Re: What Can Happen to Me Charged with First Degree Forgery Charges
They can keep you waiting until you - via your attorney - challenge the wait (right to speedy trial). If your attorney thought that you had a slam dunk defense, this would likely have already happened. Since it didn't, your attorney may be perfectly happy to wait and enjoy the extra time to prepare. As there is potential for prison time for this felony, you need to discuss this with your attorney. Sometimes rushing isn't best.
Re: What Can Happen to Me Charged with First Degree Forgery Charges
Thank you..my attorney claims they don't have much of a case without the co-defendent's testimony which is why they are wanting to wait..he seems to think they will drop charges..but I am still :confused:about why I was arrested at arraignment an not before..any idea's on this??
