Today I got caught for shoplifting at a Kohls store, nothing was damaged. This is my first time shoplifting and I have never had trouble with the law before this. They told me I would not be taken to court, but they made me sign forms that had to do with shoplifting. I was told that I would have to pay some fine and I am not allowed into any Kohls store for the next 5 years. I'm confused as to will this go on my record?

If Kohls didn't report it to the police, then you will have no real record except that many retailers participate in a reporting agency called the NRTD. You will probably not be able to get a job in a member retailer with that on your record.

The "some fine" isn't really a fine, it will be a demand letter from Kohl's "Lawyers" asking to recover the costs of the damage you caused. It will be a few hundred dollars.
