Work Permit While Green Card is in Process
Hi. If an employer offers to sponsor an employment-based Green Card to a person who has been in the US under a J1 visa program, and this person is expected to start working in two months, is this enough time to get the Green Card processed? Also, I read on the USCIS webpage that a Green Card may take years to be obtained, but someone told me that while the Green Card is in process a work permit is granted? Is that true? If so, how long does it take to get that work permit? Thanks in advance for any information on this matter. I appreciate it.

Usually work permits can be granted while a green card is pending. But usually all that's needed is the sponsor and the proper paperwork filled out in order to get a temporary work visa. Green card is usually what you get as a legal resident. That process can take up to a year or more or less.
