Applying for Denver Deputy Sheriff with a Dismissed Child Abuse Case

***Please help me anybody please I'm very desperate and stressed out right now any of your advice would appreciated it.***
Followings are basic qualifications and disqualifications of becoming a Denver Deputy Sheriff. Im met all the qualifications except one.......about 2 years ago there was an incident which resulted me a "dismissed child abuse" charge. My questions is can government refuse to offer me a position due to this dismissed child abuse charge or since it is dismissed they would not take into consideration? Or will it even show up on my criminal record check? I don't know what to do......,this is my dream job....I've been working out physically and taking a criminal related classes at local college.

In order to become a Denver Deputy Sheriff, you will have to meet the following qualifications as well as not possessing any of the following disqualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 21 at the time you apply
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
U.S. Citizen
Disqualifications

Felonies
Domestic Violence or Deferred Judgments
Sexual Assault
Child Abuse <====================================
Harassment
DUI or DWAI in the last 3 years
Soft Drug use in the last 3 years
Hard Drug use in the last 5 years
Negative Driving Record

You're making us guess at a lot of things. Clarify: The list above is in reference to convictions? You are stating that about two years ago you were charged with felony child abuse? And that you entered a plea bargain, served a deferred sentence, and the charge was dismissed at the end of that sentence? The plea deal was to the felony charge?

I just double-checked the Denver deputy sheriff requirements on its websites. They certainly do seem to disqualify people for felony child abuse convictions. If you were convicted for your child abuse charge and it was a felony, there is a good chance you'll be disqualified. However, a dismissed child abuse charge can be mean a lot of things, as Mr. Knowitall points out. As long as yours wasn't a felony and it wasn't an actual convicting (e.g. not found guilty), you might be okay.

They do not owe you a job. They can and WILL look into these accusations and can come to their own conclusions (assuming you get that far in the hiring process). They can look at the reports and decide they do not want to hire you. The fact that the charges were dropped does not mean they have to ignore it. They might, but I doubt it. They know that cases get dropped for a host of reasons, most having nothing to do with factual innocence and more to do with the burden of proof or the cooperation of victims and witnesses.

And if you pled guilty and received a deferred sentence, I'd say that your chances of employment in law enforcement are slim to none even if no statutory bar exists in CO.

Thank you for your expertise response.......I feel much better now and I feel I need to make couple things clear here. First the charge was a misdemeanor not a felony...". Second it was a differed sentence at that time which it was conditional and i did all the court court asked me to do such as community services all that. today I've just checked with the court the charges completely dropped.
