Volunteer Rights

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California

Is there any legislation that protects volunteers ? Do volunteers have any rights?

Protects them from what? What kind of rights are you looking for?

You have the right to stop volunteering should you not like the situation.

I entered a intern/volunteer contract with a gym. A member of the the gym whom I was once friends intentionally made the issue surface at the gym and he constantly slandered my name or harassed others to get information with me. I constanly told the director about it and no one spoke to him and told him his behavior was not appropriate. I finally got a temporary restraining order against him and once I did one of the ladies I work with call me and said maybe I shouldn't come in anymore since I completed my internship months ago . I feel discriminated against because the person was a member and I wasn't not an employee. No one handled this situation in a professional manner . I wanted to know what I can do about this issue when i didn't entertain the drama there. Also they guy was circling the parking lot I was in after he got word of a restraining against him

You're going to have to define what you mean when you say he "slandered your name" and "harassed others"; also, what information he was looking for. Different people have different definitions of those terms and it can make a difference what, if any, rights you have.

FYI, not all or even most discrimination is illegal and it is quite legal to discrimination on the basis of who is a member of the gym and who is not.

I think OP is upset because the gym didn't "back her up" and simply told her to stop volunteering rather than do something to the other party.

Actually I have a restraining order against this individual because of harassment. I am not mad because they didn't back me up. If your incompetent please don't not reply to my post with unnecessary opinions . This is not Facebook. Thank you.

seriously? I'll tell you in a blunt, to the point, factual answer:

you have no claim here. They did not do anything improper or illegal. Your issue is with your former paramour. Your restraining order means nothing to the gym. It is yours to have enforced against your former paramour. Of you fail to do that, it's on you.

so now, not only does it appear you are upset because the gym didn't back you up, you are throwing a tantrum because you didn't hear what you wanted to hear.
