Not My Debt but Agencies Still Call
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Indiana
The person who had the phone number prior to me racked up a lot of debt and collection agencies keep calling me. I always tell them I don't even know the person but they've been lied to so often that they don't believe me. Can I file harassment charges with someone?
Re: Not My Debt but Agencies Still Call
If it's one agency, instruct them not to contact you again.
If it's a different agency each time, there's no single entity you can accuse of harassing you, and (leaving other issues aside for the moment) a single contact is not "harassment".
Re: Not My Debt but Agencies Still Call
Been right where you are! Aggravating. I would tell one and a month or two later a new one would call. The debt was re-sold at least three times! Honestly, the only way i stopped it was to get a new phone number.
