    Inheritance After Emancipation
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: New York.

I realize after just a few moments of scanning this forum that this is an exceedingly popular topic. However, I'm not here to ask about whether or not I can get away from my mom because I'm not fond of her, though I'm truly not.

I'm 16 and a junior. This means college choices and such. I'm a relatively good student with an interest in linguistic and teaching English as an international language and I'm very, very set on attending Roskilde University in Denmark. My mother is not supportive of this. She outright refuses to allow me to attend any school outside of the state. This, along with a large amount of emotional abuse (what teenager doesn't claim it?) may force my hand into emancipation, which I know I can achieve.

My question is of how my emancipation will effect the inheritance left for me by my father. It's a rather large amount of money. It's also the whole of my college fund, something I need desperately for well. College. Will emancipating myself include giving up the right to that money? Or is it mine when I gain freedom? It's in my name. Or at least, in the name of my custodian. Does that mean it'll go to me? I'm very afraid that my mother will still have it, which basically refutes the purpose of emancipating myself in the first place.

Exactly how is the money held, by whom, and under what conditions or restrictions?

In your state, emacipation happens only after you are ALREADY living on your own and supporting yourself, for which you need the explicit or at least implied consent of your mother. Is she going to allow you to move out? Because if she won't, emancipation is a moot point.
