How to Sponsor a Parent Who Has Overstayed a Visa
Hello,
I am currently a US citizen (i received mine through my father) but working over seas.
My mother came to the country on a student visa but currently overstayed due to circumstances. She has overstayed for about 10 years.
I was wondering if I can still sponsor her by filling out the i-130 and i - 485 given that she has overstayed for so long and even though I am out of the country?
She heard that she should definitely buy a lawyer but our budget is a bit tight and I was wondering if that was necessary.
thank you in advance and I'll answer any questions that can help me get the best answer.

You would be sponsoring her for "family reunification". Since you are not living in the US, there is no need for her to be here. You better find the money for an attorney. If you cannot afford the attorney, how do you expect to support her?
