Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida
I was in Wal-Mart with my father, and I went to go grab Shampoo. While over there on a stupid impulse I grabbed some lipstick and nail polish and put it in my purse, just out of curiosity. As we were leaving, before I made it out the door the lady grabbed my arm and asked me to please return the items in my bag. She then asked if I did take anything, and I admitted yes I did. They took me to the office and I took everything out of my purse, and gave it all back. She asked me some questions regarding my name, address, and birthday. As I sat in the office they rang up a receipt, and apparently it was 70 dollars worth of cosmetics because I grabbed the most expensive ones. We offered to pay and she said that since I returned it there was no need. Afterwards, they said this was being handled in a civil matter, with no police. She told me that I cannot get a job at Wal-Mart, that since I am under the age of 18 I must be escorted in by my father, and that I may receive a fine in the mail at most. This was three weeks ago and I have not received a letter, but I am still worried. What could possibly happen? I am a A student, and I don't do things like this at all, it was a very out-of-character choice for me. I really don't want this to go on my record, and I am frightened by what may happen. Will this ruin my chances of going to college? Will I go to jail? Please, someone help me!

How old are you?
You do realize that nobody is going to be impressed by the claim that you were stealing cosmetics because you were "curious", don't you?

You will get a letter in the mail. It may be addressed to your parents. Expect $150+. Your parents need to pay this or it will just get more expensive and ruin their credit.

Will this be all? The thing I am most worried about is being prevented from going to college. I already know that once I turn 18 my juvenile record will be sealed, but will colleges have access to it still? Also, since I wasn't even didn't even get arrested or anything will it go on my record at all?
Re: Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart
Hopefully that will be all. The store does have 1-2 years to file criminal charges.
