    Emancipation in British Columbia
OK I live with my mom and my dad lives out of the country and havent had contact with him in 5 or so years. My mom has full custody but I'd like to be emancipated so I can live on my own or with my grandparents. The reason that I need to be amancipated is my mom, my brother and I, live with my eventually to be step-dad (about 5 years now.) My Step dad mentally abuses me on a regular basis. It is severly affecting me mentally, I have depression (severe) and have break downs on a regualr basis. I know what I do with my emotions is my decision but I am just wondering if my moms not willing to move out of a house with an abusive boyfriend does it give me any rights of emanicipation.. also can u do it in canada and If so how do I go about it... If any of this makes any sense. Answer, please. Tanx

I am not sure that Canada has a national emancipation law, and I cannot find one among BC's statutes. You may wish to consult a local lawyer to try to find a reference to a law or statute which might permit emancipation, contact a local court to see if they entertain emancipation actions, or discuss your situation with your school guidance counselor.
