Possession and Paraphernalia
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
The other night I was charged with possession of marijuana (less than a gram and only stems) and paraphernalia during a traffic stop. My questions are: 1) what the possible outcomes and punishments are? and 2) is it necessary that I hire a lawyer or would a state appointed lawyer suffice?
Re: Possession and Paraphernalia
A court appointed lawyer isn't some sort of fall back for those unwilling to obtain private counsel. It is for people who are indigent and unable to pay for counsel. I'd get a lawyer (either court appointed if you qualify or private if you don't). Michigan courts are all over the place with regard to whether they'll be lenient with first offenders or not. You need someone with local knowledge of the judge you're up against.
