    Santa Fe, Nm Shoplifting Citation
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Mexico. I am a full-time student and live on campus in Santa Fe, NM, so I have a current Santa Fe address. I was accused of shoplifting at Hobby Lobby and received a citation. The total cost of the merchandise was under 50$. I was wondering what my options are for my penalty. I'm going to be moving back to Nebraska in May for summer break. Do I need to tell the judge that in case he/she wants to assign me to probation? Please help. I've never done this before. I'm a full-time student and I don't have a job right now. I have no idea how to approach this, so any bit of advice would help. Thanks.

If you are indigent and can not pay for a lawyer, ask for a public defender.
You do understand that they are free to jail you or otherwise deny you the opportunity to leave the state while under sentence?

I did not know that. If I were put on probation, would it be possible to transfer to a probation officer in another state?

It's at the discretion of both state's probation department, but it's regularly done.
