Emancipation of my girlfriend in New York
my girl and me have beeen togather alittle while and she hates how she is treated by her parents. she wait hand and foot on them everyday the only breaks she gits is school and school sports she plays.she wants to be emancipated when she is 16 in october and we were lookin up the rules in new york for emacipation and it says the child has to be self supporting.and that is our only promblem she wants to come live with me and i want her to and my parents say it is ok. does this self supporting rule mean she can't be considered emacipated b/c she would be liveing with me and my parents, and would this if she came to live with me could her parents take action like call cops and call runaway instead of emacipation and we could git in trouble? just lookin for answers thanx now to all the people that try to help!

As you will see in this thread it states the qualifications.

If she doesn't get emancipated before she moves with you in Texas, there could be several legal problems you and your family could face.

The courts take it very seriously when a minor wants to terminate a parent's right to parent their child.

What you are describing is someone else (your parents) taking on the responsibility of someone elses child. This won't go well in court.

I agree with Happytrails. Your girlfriend would have to support herself, with no help from you or your parents or anybody else. That is just one of the requirements. Please have your girlfriend read the link that Happytrails provided. If she does move in with you and she is not emancipated, your parents could be charged with harboring a runaway, and that would not be fair to them for just wanting to help.

Also contributing to the delinquency of a minor, transferring a minor across state lines (felony), interferring with parental custody.....

I'm sorry, disregard the felony then.

    The rest still applies.

I see that the O.P never responded, that is usually what happens when you tell them they are breaking the law, and not what they want to hear. Oh well, we are here to help, not lie to appease!;)
