Told Not to Report Overtime
My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Florida
The other day my boss instructed me not to write my overtime on my timesheet. I was told that for a few minutes of overtime she is sure that we waste time at some point, so it would all figure itself out. Is this legal?
Also, legally can they tell us we are not aloud to go to the restroom? I use the restroom alot. I do not have a medical condition, just drink alot of water.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
How much overtime are we talking about? There's a reason I'm asking, and it's probably not the reason you're envisioning.
Case law gives you "sufficient" time to use the restroom, but that doesn't mean you can take unlimited time whenever you like. How much time are you taking?
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
Not much overtime currently, but in general, we were told not to put it on or time sheet.
In regards to the bathroom breaks, 3-5 minutes at a time about 5 times a day.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
I'm asking for a specific reason, with a specific law in mind. When you say "not much" overtime, how much is that? Five minutes, fifteen, an hour, three hours?
Do you get regular breaks? Florida does not require them but many employers offer them anyway.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
3-5 minutes at a time. One of my fellow employees was called into the office for putting a few minutes on her timesheet.
we get 2 fifteen minute breaks and a lunch.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
I'm not into dentistry. I'm getting tired of pulling teeth.
3-5 minutes at a time, how often?
There's a reason you can't use the restroom during your breaks?

Well the OP does not want ot provide information it looks like...I would assume 3-5 minutes a year.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
About 4 times a week. I was under the impression it was against the law to falsify your timecard. Not to long ago I was told not to put about fifteen minutes on my timecard. I get text messages from my boss in the evenings and on the weekends, which I also do not get paid for. These messages go on for about 10-15 minutes at a time. Always work related, nothing personal.
No there isn't a reason I can't use the restroom on my break, but apparently there is a problem with me going other times as well.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
Okay, this is the last time I'm going to ask this. Upthread you said we were talking 3-5 minutes. Now you're saying 15. Give me an ACCURATE answer as to how much time per week on an average you are losing or I'm done here.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
Don't worry about . I do not deserve to be treated rudely. I am trying to answer your questions. I will seek advise and information other places.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
cbg is just about the best person in the US to get legal answers from...and you blow her off because she expressed frustration at your persistent refusal to answer her questions? Wow.
Re: Told Not to Report Overtime
There are rules regarding the rounding of time. I am TRYING to determine if your situation falls into them. If it's never more than 3-5 minutes it does; if it's 15 it doesn't. But if I can't get a straight answer, I can't give you one. It's as simple as that.

tsk tsk tsk ... this poster's gone folks. Its the OP's own fault on this one. I would not answer the OP's question now even if they provided the info needed.
