Shoplifting and Failure to Appear in Court
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I missed my court date scheduled 3/12/12 and now have a failure to appear with a bench warrant and bail of $1500. My questions are: Will they come after me, I know that they could potentially arrest me if I was pulled over etc, but will they come knocking on my doors? Should i call the courts and sort this out? What are my options? I can't, at this time afford legal counsel, I just can't risk going to jail becuas eI have a little girl whom I take care of and who's dad doesn't have anything to do with her. Also, I have a few court dates with family law, for a modification on visitation and a restraining order (against my ex) will this effect it and will they know about this criminal court case? Thanks in advance.
Re: Shoplifting and Failure to Appear in Court
Yes they can come after you. Yes they can arrest you if you get pulled over. If your child is with you when you are arrested, the child will be handed over to child services. You should contact the court to arrange an appearance (and make arrangements to NOT have the child with you when you appear).
Re: Shoplifting and Failure to Appear in Court
Sort it out quick (including arranging the surrender and bail) or be prepared for the ex to gleefully inform the Family Court that you are a fugitive from justice and thus not fit to care for the child.
