What to Expect of a Pretrial Diversion Program
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida

    Hi,

My arraignment is around the corner, on Wednesday March 14 2012, for Orange County, Florida.

I am 18 years old, and turned 18 only a week before I was arrested, therefore I am considered an adult. It was my first offense, no prior criminal record. The merchandise was valued @ 40$(two shirts under my own shirt). I am currently a senior in high school.

Can someone PLEASE explain or give me an outline on what will happen when I reach the court? I am going alone and my parents don't know yet. What should I do? I know to plead not guilty. Also am I entitled to a public defender?

If I am offered the pretrial diversion program, what is the program like and what am I supposed to do in it?

The cop also told me that I will have my adjudication withheld? <- can I still try to get my charges expunged/dropped after a year? or only sealed?

It's not a bad idea to go to court tomorrow and watch other cases.

What will happen is this - your name will be called. You will be read the charges. Plead "Not guilty" and ask for a public defender.

If you get a pre-trial diversion....you will likely have Community Service (you get to pay for the privilege), and probation. Stay out of trouble, and after a while the charges are removed from your record, or sealed.

Expect court costs, fines. The store will send a Civil Demand. And expect any costs related to the Diversion program. Basically.... $1500+....

Sometimes, court clerk's will have information on diversion programs. This will not be cheap , you may have to tell your parents.

    $1500 yea rightttttt.

I already got the 200$ civil demand, I doubt court fees would total 1500$.

THe pretrial is only like 300$ total. Idk where you get the other 1000$ from
