Obligations of a Sublessee in Paying Rent Once 30-Day is Given
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California

A girl and her friends were/are renting a condo. The one whose name is on the lease is one of the girls' dad. Four girls were living there. One roommate could not afford the full room rent, so found a roommate- me. She said they have the lease until this April. I moved in August 29th. I stayed until November (it was all I could handle). I have my notice early on in September, and had talked about it even before that. I moved out the end of November to be out by Dec 1. I paid rent until November, the month I left.

Originally, I paid first month rent, last month rent, and a deposit. I have waited all of this time to get my last months rent money back to give her time, and she says that I cannot have any money back because it was my legal obligation to pay and my last month rent portion went to January rent since she could only find a roommate until this February. I am not even asking for the deposit back- I know my dog did have accidents on the carpet at times and moving made a mark on the wall, but it still would not even add up to the deposit.

She said I am lucky they are not taking legal action against me. Is she correct? As far as I am concerned I gave her notice, and I am not even on the lease. I never signed any agreement. She says the agreement is implicit when I "accepted the craigslist ad". I feel she just needs the money and is trying to keep it from me because she couldn't afford rent. Am I responsible for it?

    Please help!!

You rented in response to a craigslist ad? What did the ad say? It's possible to enter into an oral lease of @7 months.
