first post...I'm a 16 y.o. living in Virginia Beach, VA. I am in the International Bacculaureate (IB) program at school with amazing grades. I even have community service hours (about 50). i went to a local surf shop with the intention of buying some surfboard repair ($12), which I DID have money to afford. on a stupid unexplainable impulse i put it in my pocket. i walked out to my car and when i opened the door a worker came out and asked me if I paid for it and i said no, i left it inside. He asked me what was in my pocket and i confessed. I was taken to an office and the cops were called. I told the officer the truth about everything. I was then released to my parents. This IS my first offense. 2 days later I went to the store on my own decision because I felt bad and apologized to the owner. Also, on my lawyer's request, I am doing more community service before the court date and wrote a letter of apology to the owner. What will most likely happen to me? When my lawyer asks me why I did it, which he told me he will, should I honestly just say that it was a stupid impulse becuase, even though i'm not real familiar with court proceedings, that's probably overused.
