Got Caught Shoplifting at Macys in California
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I was caught shoplifting a shirt worth $26 in California
The LP security took my information down and made me sign some papers saying how I won't enter the store for 3 years, etc... and I got a $425 fine which they said I must pay by tomorrow...
The police never came; however, she did call to see if I had any warrants
Then, she proceeded to tell me I will get something in the mail for my court date
My question is:
What steps should I take now?
Will this go on my record?
I'm really at a loss for words for my stupid actions....

The civil demand you can pay or you can roll the dice to see if Macy's "lawyers" will launch a civil suit against you.
If you get the charges ("the court date") in the mail. Take them to an attorney as soon as possible.
Most likely the incident has been reported to the National Retail Theft Database which really is only an issue if you want to work in a member retail store or you get caught stealing in one again.
If you get convicted in criminal court, you will have it on your record.
Stay out of Macy's/Bloomingdales for the duration.
