How to get emancipated in South Carolina at age 16
:wallbang: i have to many problems at home and i just want out...my step-dad and i do not get along out all and is never there unless its to scream at me for everything ive ever done wrong...half the time he doesnt even know whats going on and i need to get out before somthing happens...my mom agrees that i should leave and will emancipate me if needed but do we have to go through signing papers and all that or can i just leave?also...if i get emancipated what are my legal rights at 16...can i register myself in school?can i sign papers that i normally would need a parent for?i have a job and a place to stay but im sure thats not all i need

It is my understanding that South Carolina does not have an emancipation statute. You can try consulting a local family lawyer or guidance counselor at school to see what options may be available for you.

if my mom is willing to just let me move out could i?ive talked to counselers at school..and it resulted in unneeded drama..i have a 10 yr. old brother and i dont want to make things harder for him..i just want out...could i just leave and still be able to go to school..i.e. register myself?

There shouldn't be a problem with your mother letting you move into a safe, appropriate environment.
