What Are the "6 Directives"

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Louisiana.
Grocery stores reportedly have a system of dealing with shoplifters via "6 directives" and I would like to know if anyone knows what these steps are. I have been stealing from a store and finally had a wake up call before getting caught...but I have a feeling they've been onto me and that I may not be out I the woods yet.

La. RS 14:67.10 and reads in pertinent part:
A. Theft of goods is the misappropriation or taking of anything of value which is held for
sale by a merchant, either without the consent of the merchant to the misappropriation or
taking, or by means of fraudulent conduct, practices, or representations. An intent to
deprive the merchant permanently of whatever may be the subject of the
misappropriation or taking is essential and may be inferred when a person:
(1) Intentionally conceals, on his person or otherwise, goods held for sale.
(2) Alters or transfers any price marking reflecting the actual retail price of the goods.
(3) Transfers goods from one container or package to another or places goods in any
container, package, or wrapping in a manner to avoid detection.
(4) Willfully causes the cash register or other sales recording device to reflect less than
the actual retail price of the goods.
(5) Removes any price marking with the intent to deceive the merchant as to the actual
retail price of the goods.
(6) Damages or consumes goods or property so as to render it unmerchantable.

I have never heard of "6 Directives".

They look at all customers. They see suspicious activity (sorry, I'm not helping you cover your ass here). If they don't already have all cameras recording, they now do. And have someone also visually surveilling you. (In case you have not figured that one out - one of your fellow shoppers may be store security).

By the time they detain you, they have both visual and surveillance evidence of your activities.

PS...I believe I replied to your earlier thread....and told you...stay out of those stores and STOP SHOPLIFTING.

Seriously. If you are caught, it will cost you THOUSANDS of dollars, and make job hunting difficult at the best for many years. You may apply for an apartment and be turned down because of the criminal charge....

What the OP may be referring to is the "6 -step" guidelines for the apprehension of shoplifters. As I noted they are guidelines and no state requires a retailer follow the steps for apprehending shoplifters. Retailers follow some or all of the steps in their shoplifter apprehension policies and procedures.

Yes you did reply and I thank you again for your attention. I AM staying out of the stores and DONE with downright despicable stealing. I HATE it and wish I'd never done such a thing. I may never forgive myself but I know I'll NEVER do it again. I'm only now concerned about the potential legal consequences of my actions.

Yes, it very well may be, but as I pointed out the 6-steps are a guideline for retailers to follow when making shoplifter detentions. I'm merely suggesting that if the 6-steps are followed probable cause can be clearly articulated , that the risk of an error is minimized, and as a result exposure to civil liability is substantially reduced.
