Ticket Record Not in System
My question involves traffic court in the State of: CA
Hi everyone,
I got a speeding ticket coming home from Los Angeles between Christmas and New Years 2011. It was given to me by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the court at the bottom of my ticket is Chatsworth. Both the online system and the phone system can't find my ticket record (searched by driver's license # and citation #). They say it takes up to 21 days to process, but it has been well over 21 days. I've tried to talk to a person on the phone but the automated system says that no one is available to take my call and that they won't answer messages because they have too much volume. I left a message, but I haven't gotten and don't expect an answer. My court date is February 24 (in a week), and I live in San Francisco so going to LA to appear in court is not really that feasible. What should I do? It says if I fail to forfeit bail or appear in court I could face 6 months or $1,000 fine. I'd really like to avoid either of those...
Re: Ticket Record Not in System
When is your appearance date?
The bad news is that the state has up to a year to file charges (i.e. file the ticket) against you before the statute of limitations apply. If your appearance date has already occurred or is close by when they finally file it, they'll push the date back. Until then just keep checking every week.
Re: Ticket Record Not in System
The answer will also depend on what your intentions are... Pleading guilty/taking traffic school, plead not guilty and request TBD/trial... etc!
Re: Ticket Record Not in System
I am currently dealing with a somewhat similar situation. I have posted a thread on the matter. I am being replied to by a person who seems to want to badger me instead of actually read what I wrote to answer my questions. THAT GUY, and CALIFORNIA STUDENT, you seem like you know what your talking about and are actually on here to relieve some stress and explain things that are not understood by the greater of this nations population. Not to take any attention away from forresthc93, but I'd appreciate a second opinion.
Re: Ticket Record Not in System
The appearance date on the ticket is Feb 24, right? Typically it's extended when they send you a courtesy notice. I would do this: check the online system daily, and PRINT OUT the "no match" (or whatever is shown) page every day, making sure your browser prints the date on top or bottom (most automatically do).
That way, on the very slight chance that you somehow get an FTA, considering your distance from the court, it should be pretty straightforward to get a judge to dismiss the FTA.
