Moving Out at 16
My question involves guardianship in the State of: North Carolina
Hi I'm 15 and I want to move out of my dad's house when I turn 16 in a few months, but I don't want to go through the hassel of getting emancipated. Is that allowed without him calling the cops and getting the people I'm going to stay with in trouble?

Re: Moving Out at 16
No. It is absolutely not allowed. Until you are 18 (not 16, not 17, but 18) you live where your father says you live. And yes, the people you are staying with absolutely could find themselves in legal trouble, up to and including jail.
BTW, in order to qualify for emancipation, you have to be able to prove to the satisfaction of the judge that you are capable of paying 100% of all your own support, without assistance. That means market rate for rent (not a token for staying in someone else's house), utilities, clothing, food, medical care, transportation, insurance, staples, school fees and supplies, etc., all while continuing in school and getting better than average grades. Can you do that?
