    Changing My Daughters Last Name
My question involves name change laws in the State of: New York

I am getting married to my daughters father in august and her last name is currently mine and we would like to change the last name to his as that is what my last name will be as well. Since I am marrying her father do I have to go to court to get this done? That sounds odd to petition the court when we are changing to his last name?

Yes, you must go to court. Your name change you get for free with the marriage but the children have to get a court order.
This however should be a slam dunk since everybody is in agreement on a last name.
