Questions on Emancipation in New Mexico
I am 17 and will be 18 in November. I am 7 months pregnant and will also be having the baby in Novmber. I need to be emancipated only for the reason that my boyfriend and I need a two bedroom apartment and the program he is under with his disability won't let me on the lease without a legal document stating my independence or the Emancipation. My parents are okay with it I just need to know how I go about the process. I have the papers I just don't know what to do next. We really need to get this done as quickly as possible and it's hard because we have to work around my dad's work schedule. If you could please explain to me the process of Emancipation as to seeing the notary and judge, I would really appriciate it. Thank you, Kayla

How old is your boyfriend and what is the nature of his disability?

According to the statutes you should be able to qualify for the purpose of establishing your own residence, this owuld allow you to remain on your parents insurance for the birth of your child at least, you may be able to get the new lease set up withuot emancipation per se, you don't want a huge medical bill and no way to pay it do you?
