Re: Can't Get into College
You can go to college ... I worked and went through college.
Also, its the financial aid that has actually gotten us to a place where mediocre schools charge 50K/yr.
Now student loans have surpassed credit card debt in the US.
So tell me again, why is aid required to go to school?

Absolutely not.
You have been legally emancipated since you reached the age of 18. When FAFSA talks about aid for emancipated minors, it is referring to minors who have gone to court to have the disabilities of minority removed to allow them to enter into contracts, etc. This is generally reserved for minors whose parents have died and they find themselves needing the ability to sign a lease or utility agreement.
It is NOT about a 20 year-old getting more Federal aid.

What do I need to do?
You can either delay matriculation until you are 24, continue with unsubsidized loans, or you can speak to the Financial Aid department at your intended school to see what other aid options may be available to you.

I have been trying to get into college for a while now but the only thing holding me back from becoming an actual student, is that because my parents make to much a year I do not qualify for the financial aid part.
So lack of money of your OWN is what's holding you back - which would apply whether you were seeking to go to school, buy a car, etc. If you haven't been living independently for enough time to qualify as independent, then you have several choices:
a) don't go until you meet those requirements, or
b) get loans, like most students do, or
c) work a couple of jobs and pay cash for your tuition, or
d) work for an employer who will pay for classes (lots of state and local government jobs do this if you attend a state school)

My parents do not want to pay for my college and I was told an unsubsidized loan just isn't worth it.
Only YOU can decide if it's "worth it".

The only thing is that I do not live with my parents. Haven't been for about 3 almost 4yrs now. I was told because I dnt have proof of me living on my own and my income that it does make me my own guardian but my boyfriend supports me because I am currently unemployed.
The school is going to want to see your income tax returns to determine that you are independent - if you haven't been working, you're not going to be able to establish that you're INdependent for financial aid purposes. If you're going to be dependent on your boyfriend, then ask HIM to pay for your school.

I was told to either wait until I am 24 or to proceed with college since my parents do not want to pay or find some way to get legal guardianship. Can someone please explain how this can make since? And since I am 20yrs old can I have a family friend take guardianship over me who doesn't make a lot of income so I can meet the needs for financial aide so I can start school?
You're an adult - you don't NEED a guardian, and no court is going to approve a guardianship just so you can get subsidies from taxpayers who HAVE jobs for school. You really NEED to get yourself a JOB - otherwise you're going to have to wait until 24 for financial aid, or find a way to pay cash as you go, maybe just taking one or two classes at a time.
