Changing My Family's Name
My question involves name change laws in the State of: Pennsylvania
I want to change my last name to my father's. I am married and have three children If I understand this correctly I'd only need to petition the court to change my wife and my names. My children would automatically have their names changed as well. Is this correct? Do I have to place the 2 news paper adds for all of us or just my wife and I? What if any procedures do I need to go through for my children? Thanks so much in advanced.
Re: Changing My Family's Name
Per statute,
Quote:
Quoting Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, Title 54, Sec. 703. Effect on children.
(a) General rule. -- Whenever an order is made under this chapter changing the surname of anyone who is at the time thereof the parent of a minor child or adopted minor child, then under the care of such parent, the new surname of such parent shall, unless otherwise ordered by the court, thereafter be borne likewise by such minor child.
(b) Further change on attaining majority. -- Any minor child whose surname has been changed pursuant to subsection (a) upon attaining majority shall also be entitled to the benefits of section 702 (relating to change by order of court).
