Cashed a Check for a Business that Was Not Good
My question involves criminal law for the state of Louisiana. I was given a check from a business to go cash and bought the money back to the owner. When I bought the money back, the owner gave me some of the money and they kept the rest. However, the place where I cashed the check was not supposed to accept checks from that business, I was unaware of this but they cashed it anyway. Now, I am being charged with theft of a felony. Is this right? Who should be held responsible: me or one of the businesses?

    Disagreeable
Re: Are This Charge Against Me Correct
It sounds like you were paid to pass a bad check. Passing bad checks is a crime.

You passed the check. You are responsible. This is oldest scam in the book. Did you not think it was funny they paid you to cash their check? Get a lawyer.

Both of you will be responsible, but you were the main perp.

What was the original amount of the check, and how much of that was offered to you for you to cash it?
