Shoplifted a Bag of Popcorn

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
Okay so heres the situation...I was in michigan visiting a friend and one day i went into the gas station of beacon and bridge and saw a bag of popcorn lying on the floor so i took it and walked out..i know stupid and retarded....i dont know why i did it but it was just an impulse i guess so anyway i stay there for a few weeks visiting and then i come back to my home state of New york and just a few days ago my friend calls me saying the police were at his place with a picture of me and asking if he knew me...he retardedly gave them all my info where i lived where i work etc etc so my question to you is....What do i do now? I cannot have this on my permanent record I am leaving for medical school in may and I realllllly want to take care of this stupid stupid action which i swear 2 god i will never do again...any help would be greatly appreciated

certainly not, were still close friends and it's okay i don't really care what he said or whatever i just want this to be over so i can just move on with my life and not let this one mistake hurt me in the long run, i have the cleanest record ever..22 years old and nothing...not so much as a speeding ticket either soo I hope by hiring an attorney this goes away...but this incident happened in michigan i live in NY...the police haven't contacted me yet or nothing..I'm so scared that anyday the police is gonna come at my door with handcuffs and oh god so scared not even funny

There has to be a bit more to the "story". You're there a "few weeks" and then the Law shows up with your pic looking for ya? Weeks later? Over a bag of popcorn? That's an awful lot of effort for less than two bucks!

Although I have seem some real slow days where Five-Oh went above and beyond for something relatively minor, but never that slow that it took weeks to investigate and track down the infamous popcorn snatcher!
