The crime is the same for illegal residents as for legal residents.

However, an arrest might result in immigration problems, but the underlying offense is the same.

488(petty theft)was arrested & released with notice to appear & court date.item was under $150.she did have money with her.my mother & dauther was with her.i belive she used the stroler to hide items.tommorrow will be first hearing.

It sounds as if tomorrow will be the arraignment. That will be where the charges will be read to her and she will be asked to make a plea (Guilty, Not Guilty, or No Contest). She should also be allowed to request a public defender (an attorney paid at public expense) if she lacks the assets or resources to pay for one herself.
