How to Apply for Social Security
I have applied for disability by the advice of my physcologist. But wanted to know if I can qualify with the medical issues I am having. Severe anxiety and panic attacks, depression, fear to drive due to having the attacks while I drive, among other "mental issues". I have been out of work since Nov 2011 and tried to go back to work for 2 weeks in december and then the Dr put me back out again. My primary care doctor also put me out of work. Needless to say...my FMLA will run out on my job Feb 16th, and my job will posted and I will lose my job and my insurance cause I have no income I wont be able to afford Cobra....which means I won't be able to see my psycologist to fix my problem. Is there a chance I could qualify for disability?
Re: Some Direction on Applying for Social Security
In my opinion no, you will not prevail. You need to have a history indicating any qualifying conditions will be long term. If you are in CA, you could try applying for state disability.
Re: How to Apply for Social Security
Do you have enough work credits for SSD, or are we talking about SSI?
If you're not able to work, you may as well apply.
Re: How to Apply for Social Security
I had just seen a psychiatrist that deals a lot with the medicaide/soc sec demographic and he told me that it boils down to two things. 1. age and 2. diagnosis. If you are over 50 and have bipolar he said the approval rate is about 90+%. If you are diagnosed with depression... good luck. He's not sure what their exact algorithm is but he's worked with hundreds of cases and it ultimately comes down to those 2 things. I consider myself pretty functional but when he wrote up my case back in 03 I was approved after one denial, an appeal and about 3 months time.
