Dad Currently Deployed to Other State - Mother Seeking Child Support
My question involves child support in the State of: VA

    Hello.
My child's father is currently deployed to Another state with the military however i have decided to filing child support since he's never helped supporting his child. We are not married, nor in a relationship and he signed AOP and is on my baby's birth certificate. He's not happy about me filing for child support and threatened to do everything possible (ask paternity test....)to drag the case until he would come back and get unemployment ( he's a reservist only active duty for 9 months). my questions are: can he really drag the thing along and ask for a paternity test even though he signed the AOP? He knows my child is his, he'd only do that to gain some time....Would my case have to wait for him to get back before it could go anywhere? Of course he is not forthcoming with any salary information and refuses to give me his address( even though I know the base-school he's at). Thank you for your help!

Let the state deal with it, Mom. If he contests paternity, they'll deal with it.

The important thing for you to realize is that even if a child support order is made, you might not see any money. What HE needs to realize is that no matter how long he drags it out, he will be liable from the date you filed - not the date the order is made. So dragging it out isn't really in his best interest.

Thank you I will definitely let the State handle it but it is soooo frustrating to have to deal with someone so selfish. I just want to be able to take care of my child without struggling....:-(

Ugh, I know. It's lousy when the other parent doesn't want to support their child.

But unfortunately, the reality is that some parents will never see a dime of child support. At least if he's military, THEY can actually step in. Once you get the support order, you can actually start bugging the military and they WILL make him pay if he's still enlisted.

    ;)
