One parent will help, what can i do?
I am 16 years old. I will be 17 in a little over a month. I live with my mother and I can't take it anymore. My father lives 45 minutes away from where I live with my mother (we all live in NY) and since I am going to be finishing my last year of highschool I want to stay in my town. My dad works in Rochester and has agreed to let me live with him if I can't take it much longer and he would drive me to school every morning until I can get my own car. But considering gas prices these days, he and I have also talked about emancipation. But if I lived anywhere other than with my father my mom would throw a fit. My dad and I have talked about me living with a friend of mine but I'm afraid that if my mother disaproves then I would not be able to stay there or emancipate myself. I have my own job and my friends mother has agreed to let me stay there. Can I stay with someone else if my father gives me permission and my mother disapproves? I dont know the lengths she would take to not let it happen, but with her... anything is possible! Can I stay with my friend and stay at my school??? Please help, Thank you.

Your mother has primary (or exclusive) physical custody of you?

No, my parents are legally divorced so they have split custody.

Well then, they both have a say in where you live.

Well then how can i get out of living with my mother? Other than going to live with my dad... can i stay with a friend to save from driving 45 minutes every day? Gas prices are crazy. I guess what I'm asking is.... If my mom objects to me living with my friend, does that mean i can't stay there??

    That is correct.

That's what Mr. Knowitall stated when he wrote, "Well then, they both have a say in where you live."

They would both have to agree.

Have you tried asking mom and given her the "Gas prices are crazy" reason?

I'm sorry... what i ment to says was that they are NOT legally divorced... just seperated. (Not even legally seperated... we just havn't lived with my dad for 3 years) So can i get out of living with my mother? Other than going to live with my dad... can i stay with a friend to save from driving 45 minutes every day? Gas prices are crazy and I really want to finish my last year of highschool in the school I've been going to for 9 years.

My mom is really strict on me and keeps a close eye. I think she would go crazy if I tried to live with anyone but her because she wouldn't be able to watch everything I do. I want to know if I can get out of my mom's house with out her approval. Is that possible and if so... how?

You are your parents responsibility, if they don't agree that you can live with someone else it isn't going to happen.
