Can You Move to Another State and Emancipate
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Florida
I am 17 and living with my grandparents. My home life is kind of difficult and has left me feeling as though it's not going to get any better. I have started planning my course of action after I turn 18. Only to realize a move during the school year will distract me from my studies. So I was wondering if I could get emancipated and start the school year in the new state instead of waiting? Would I be granted emancipation? How long would it take to get? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Re: Can You Move to Another State and Emancipate
If you're asking whether you can move out at 18, yes - and you'll be an adult, so you can move wherever you want.
If you're asking if you can run away to another state at age 17, and pop into a court in that state and say "I don't have money or a job, and my grandparents want me to come back home, but will you emancipate me," that's not a realistic scenario. Read the stickied threads.
Re: Can You Move to Another State and Emancipate
You do not qualify for emancipation, since you are not currently living away from home and are not fully supporting yourself.

And in Florida, unless your parents or legal guardian file the emancipation petition, you're dead before you start.
