What Happens to a Minor Who is Caught Shoplifting, First Offense
My question involves criminal law for the state of:
I got caught shoplifting at a Gordman's store in Iowa. Altogether, I didn't steal more than $40 worth of things. They were earrings, and a cosmetic. It is my first time, and yes live in Iowa. The Loss Prevention officer called a cop and my parents had to come pick me up. The police officer told me that I would probably get kicked off my choir & that the school police officer would be talking to me soon. He also told me that I was going to have to present myself to court & most likely take a "Hands-Off" program....
What happens? Will I be fined? Will it stay in my record? Please help.

You will definitely be fined, and will also likely have some community service to do and a period of probation. The Hands Off program is an anti-shoplifting class, usually part of a diversion program. Successful completion of a diversion program usually means that you have no criminal record when all is said and done.

Speak with an attorney prior to court.
