One Tenant Leaving, Other Two Unsure
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New Jersey
So my friend and I rented a three bedroom apartment for a year, with the hopes of finding a third roommate. We found her and she has been the roommate from below. At the end of February of this year our lease is up... They only problem now is I want to leave I don't know if my friend is staying.. And the other roommate is staying. My friend and I paid the security depost they only thing was I wrote the checks an she gave me the money for her half! The third roommate never paid the depost even later on when we asked her! I will be writing a letter to my landord stating I will not be renewing the lease.. The only concern I have is the security depost and the cable that's under my name.. How do I go about canceling it without there being drama because I'm taking my service to another apartment!
Re: One Tenant Leaving, Other Two Unsure
I don't know what provisions your lease contains in relation to renewal by only one tenant; read your lease, or discuss the issue with your landlord.
Tell your friends that as of (whatever) date you'll be turning off the cable, but that they can contact the cable company by that date in order to transfer the account to their names or take other steps to ensure continuity (consistent with the unknown cable company's unknown policies for this type of situation).
