Minor Name Change

My question involves child support in the State of: California
I have a daughter whom father wasn't in the picture until after her first birthday. not around for the pregnancy or delivery. Her birth certificate only has my last name.... he now almost 3 years later wants to add his last name but i do not want to drop my last name. Whats the best solution.

What's the best solution for what? If you two can agree on a new last name, you should have a straight forward time getting a judge to approve it. If not, the one trying to make a change (father) will have to make a compelling case to the judge.
