Emancipation for 17 Year Old, Soon to Be 18
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: mississippi
Heres some things about me before i start:

an my adoption check cuts out then too but the main thing is im adopted by my grand parents
who are barely makin it an they have custody of my lil brother an sister they barely can support them two.
my grandmother was wanting me to look into emancipation because my passion of career choice is
law enforcement and i was wonderin if i could get emancipated so i want burdon my grandparents plus me an my grandpaw get into arguements near bout everyday an well the town i live in the of police for two towns are wantin to get emancipated so i can work either part time or full time as an officer.
Now how do i go bout getting emancipated?

Even on the off chance emancipation is possible, there is virtually no way that it is going to get to court before February 12th. So, you might as well wait.
And if you intend to get into law enforcement, take some English classes. If your grammar, spelling, capitalization, syntax, and lack of punctuation are indicative of your writing ability and articulation skills, you will not do too well in law enforcement. Communication, reading and writing are the most important skills for an officer today. About 3/4 of trainees that fail field training fail it because they are inarticulate or cannot write a report properly.
It concerns me that they might actually consider employing as an officer an 18 year old kid who gets into arguments with his grandpa and apparently has some need of additional education. But, being that you are in MS I can only assume that the standards are not what they are in most other places ... though that concerns me.
You can help your grandparents out without being emancipated. You can work, do chores, help support the family, all without being emancipated. And keep going with education. Take some classes at the local community college, or adult education courses if you can. Education will benefit any law enforcement career in the long run - it will not be wasted no matter what you might choose to do one day.

Re: Emancipation for 17 Year Old Soon to Be 18
None of which changes the fact that there is no way on God's green earth you would get an emancipation petition in front of a court before February 12.
Re: Emancipation for 17 Year Old Soon to Be 18
i understand that i was just wondering if it was possible the next juvenile court is february 27th in our area do u think there is any possiblity i could it by then?
Re: Emancipation for 17 Year Old Soon to Be 18
It wouldn't matter. You'd already be 18.
Re: Emancipation for 17 Year Old Soon to Be 18
the reason im wondering is because my real good friend that is an officer in the town i live in got emancipated when he was 19 so he could go ahead to the academy
Re: Emancipation for 17 Year Old Soon to Be 18
No, he didn't. Once he turned 18 he was already a legal adult and there was nothing to emancipate him FROM. He may have gotten a waiver from the academy but that is NOT the same thing as being emancipated.

I would not count on law enforcement as a future. You need to explore other options ASAP.
