Statute of Limitations for Statutory Rape in Indiana
I'm now a 25 year old single mother of an 8 year old minor child.
10 years ago I was seduced, brain-washed, and engaged in sexual acts with a man 12.5 years older than me. I was 15 he was 28.
I had a questionable home-life and was extremely impressionable.
The first night a sexual act was committed the abuser gave me drugs (that I did take willingly). I did not agree to anything sexual with him at that time but woke up in the night while he was having sex with me. Over the next two years I was given many illegal drugs and guilted into doing sexual things with the abuser (aka, because he loved me). At the age of 16 I was pregnant and at 17 I gave birth to a son.
When I was 18 I married the man until the age of 24. I was abused mentally and physically in this time and I was always unwilling to press charges. I could kick myself now. He also committed infidelity, homosexuality, and during the coarse of our marriage had stabbed someone.
At that time I describe what happened as "waking up." I looked at my life and realized where I was and got out of the situation as fast as I could.
The abuser had two wives previous, the first was 14 when she was impregnated and 15 when he married her.
The second was 15 when she was impregnated, and 16 when she had her first child with him. The age they were married is unknown to me.
The abuser also admitted to me that he had raped a sleeping girl previously (age unknown).
He had also been investigated for child molestation of his second daughter after his second marriage. No charges were ever filed.
The man had talked me into letting him taking pornographic images of myself, and showed me pornographic images of his ex-wife before they had been married that were also pornographic in nature.
Based on this man's history and what happened to me, is there anything I can do about it now? I spent many years actually brainwashed and had a tough time coming to terms with the fact that I was weak-minded enough to be brain-washed. I don't want what happened to me to happen to another.
He is now 38 (I believe) and I am now 25.
Any advice would be useful.
Re: Statute of Limitations for Statutory Rape in Indiana
Immediately discuss what happened with a lawyer. Some forms of rape and/or child molestation have a five year statute of limitations; other forms can be prosecuted up until the victim turns 31. Only a lawyer in your state will be able to tell whether or not what can be proved this long after the fact will fall into the class that can still be prosecuted.
Good luck.
