Verbal Harrasment, What Will Happen

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NJ

Recently, we had a fight with a girl (I was verbally fighting with a girl in my school, but two of my friends who were passing by came to join the fight), then I said "We can rape you now."

She went to the guidance counselor (we are high school students) and reported this, we got suspended and now her parents are filing court files...

What will happen? What should we do?

I'm so scared because I don't know why I said it, and I have close to 2400 sat and 4.0 gpa.. Is my college career over?

That depends on the prosecutor. Exercise your right to remain silent. Tell your friends to do the same.

Explain what happened right after you said "We can rape you now".

Did you let the other party just walk away?

Did the other party run away?

Did you try and chase the other party while she was running away?

Did you come into contact (this includes brushing against) with the other party while she was running away?

This differently sounds like a case of harassment, but if you ran after/chased the victim the DA may just seek "Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault" charges.

If you grabbed or touched the victim, the state can add "Criminal Sexual Contact" charges.

Depends on what if any charges are issued and what you plan to major in once in collage.

Yes, we just let her walk away without a physical contact, then she proceeded to her guidance counselor to tell on what has happened; we got suspended and heard from her that her parents are filing charges against us..

I don't know what went wrong inside my head.. It was a heated moment and I just lost it.. I regret it so much.

I have rarely (not never, but rarely) said to a poster what I am about to say to you.

I hope her parents do file charges; that you are convicted of everything you are charged with; and that you receive the maximum penalty possible for whatever you are convicted of.

I hope that the poor girl isn't permanently traumatized by this.

If someone said those words to me, I would be filing charges, filing for a restraining order, and MOVING.

Do you realize what RAPE is? How would you like it someone bigger than you said "I can pin you on the ground and ram it up your butt right now". HOW WOULD YOU FEEL.

Rape is not a laughing matter. It makes a woman feel powerless. It scars the victim for the rest of their life.

That poor girl must be having nightmares. And you're concerned about YOU and how it may affect college......
